Civilization, as an objective social phenomenon, is the product of an underlying system of thought. Civilizational ideas unify diverse schools of thought under a singular identity, paving the way for the civilization's inception and flourishing. The creation of civilization is one of the most significant functions of the Holy Quran. Grounded in a monotheistic perspective, the Quranic civilizational elements fostered a new Islamic civilization in Al-Andalus; beyond providing fundamental guidelines for scientific advancement, this civilization—through a comprehensive educational framework—cultivated human intellect and understanding. By embracing the teachings of Islam and the Holy Quran, monotheistic currents in the Iberian Peninsula laid the groundwork for a deeply rooted civilization, transforming Al-Andalus into a hub of scientific, intellectual, and philosophical excellence for seven centuries—to the extent that Islamic Al-Andalus became the gateway through which civilization entered Europe. This article examines the intellectual currents prevailing in Spain prior to the Islamic conquest, the evolution of religious thought in the Iberian Peninsula, the story of a grassroots revolutionary movement, and the role of the Islamic awakening in shaping this new civilization in the Islamic West.
